Welcome to Steven Alexander's site for Basketball Officials

Dear Potential Donor;

The Southland Basketball Official’s Association (SLBOA) is a not for profit organization that is a subsidiary of The Higher Level Organization. The SLBOA is the assigning agent for 44 high schools located south of Chicago Illinois in the suburban area normally referred to as the Southland. As the assigning agent, SLBOA assigns licensed basketball referees to officiate games and assist individuals who desire to become licensed referees. We train those new officials through the summer league programs that are run at four (4) of the suburban high schools we service: Bloom (Chicago Heights), Crete Monee (Crete), Hillcrest (Country Club Hills) and Rich East (Park Forest). These schools play summer basketball games that begin the first week of June and end the first week in July. These programs afford each school an opportunity to enhance their programs and also provide college coaches a forum to evaluate high school players.

The SLBOA has been in existence for 10 years. During this time, we have been instrumental in identifying young men and women of high school and college age along with single family parents who are interested by inserting them into the referee training program. The program has prepared them to acquire games as licensed officials during the high school season, which begins in November and ends in March. The SLBOA proudly claims at least 1,100 people who have been involved in the camp over the last ten (10) years. Those individuals have become licensed, been hired by several local high school and college conferences and have worked consistently. Further, several of our trained officials have traveled outside of our local area and have been hired in other states at the high school and college level. Sports’ officiating is an excellent part-time job for those interested in being trained, accepting assignments and working for a stipend. Students benefit from this avocation by being able to work and still have plenty of time to study.

School budget deficits and lack of funding threaten to end these programs which have become a benefit to so many individuals. The SLBOA would like to help assure the existence of these programs by absorbing some of the cost to the schools. By doing so, we could help continue to train potential officials and support many summer league high school programs. Once trained, these officials venture to various camps/clinics, which provide them the opportunity to work in several high school and college conferences in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

The SLBOA is asking for your assistance by donating a minimum of $25.00. This tax deductible donation will assist the camp facilitators in providing the campers with the following items listed below:
